The Toxicology Group Leader will manage Kao Americas Research Lab’s Pre-Launch Safety Team for skin care or hair care. The Group Leader ensures that each skin care product is safe and regulatory compliant prior to manufacturing of product. This includes overseeing safety assessments of raw materials and products. Each assessment will be documented.


  • Manage Kao Americas Research Lab’s Pre-Launch Safety Team for skin care
  • Ensure that appropriate safety documentation is completed prior to product launch
  • Work with formulation teams to understand their objectives and guide their choices of raw materials.
  • Planning, coordinating and implementing measures for evaluating safety and obtaining toxicological clearance for all raw materials and finished products in a category
  • Oversee safety assessments of raw materials and products
  • Providing updates on key issues to Management both in Cincinnati and on a Global basis
  • Work closely on Product Safety related issues with cross functional teams such as Legal, Regulatory Clearance and other Kao Group entities
  • Effectively represent Kao Group on Trade Association Committees such as PCPC by transmitting information received throughout Kao as well as advocating for Kao’s position in these industry forums



  • PhD in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry or other biological science
  • DABT and / or Euro Tox certification is preferred
  • 5-12 years’ experience in product safety assurance in a consumer products company, preferably with personal care products
  • Manage training, daily work function for internal and expatriate Kao employees.
  • Responsible for evaluating the performance of their employees, providing feedback to them and working to raise the technical and performance standards.
