  • Overview

    The Category Management Analyst leverages analysis to uncover opportunities and develop actionable recommendations to drive Walmart category growth and elevate Kao’s relationships with the retailer. The analyst is responsible for execution of category strategy within the retailer and all tactical aspects of the category management process.

    Responsibilities

    1. Utilize various sources such as syndicated data, Retail Link data, and market studies to solve current business issues, define category and consumer trends, and identify business opportunities.
    2. Build productive and collaborative relationships with Walmart’s buying team by providing fact based and unbiased category recommendations. Continue to secure and maintain Kao’s position as trusted advisor and HBL Category Captain.
    3. Demonstrate category expertise by having an in-depth understanding of the business, financials, products/services, markets, and the needs of customer.
    4. Execute standard category management practices: category assessment, planogram development, assortment and merchandising optimization, and promotion/pricing analysis.
    5. Create and maintain accurate category reporting practices that enable proactive and ongoing business updates and identify category growth opportunities.
    6. Leverage Kao’s category expertise and retail knowledge by maintaining relationships with cross-functional Kao partners (Market Research, R&D, and Nielsen).

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 2 years relevant experience required, preferably Category Management or advisor experience in Consumer Packaged Goods
    • Bachelor’s Degree is required, preferably in a market research, analytics, or business discipline
    • Up to 10% travel required
    • Possess strong project management, time management, and organizational skills
    • Interpersonal Skills required:
      • Strong verbal communication, written communication, and presentation skills
      • Ability to develop strong long-term client/customer relationships
      • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
    • Exceptional analytic skills:
      • Utilize multiple data sources to gather information and quickly identify business opportunities and gaps
      • Translate business opportunities into actionable insights and customer presentations.
      • Assume expert role and ownership of assigned tools, processes, and tasks.
    • Proficiency required in:
      • Category Management
      • Syndicated retail scanning and panel data (such as Nielsen or IRI)
      • Database mining (Retailer POS Data)
      • Excel (i.e. macros, pivot tables) and Powerpoint
      • Space Planning Software (JDA) for creating/analyzing modulars
    • Proficiency preferred in:
      • Microsoft Access
      • Space management Database Software (JDA Category Knowledge Base)
